Travel to Spain
Upon arrival into Barcelona, you will be met by our local representative in the airport before being transferred to your hotel in Cambrils located on the beautiful Costa Dorada, south of Barcelona.
This morning, step back in time and explore the former Roman stronghold of Tarragona, where ancient Roman ruins lie beside modern day buildings. Visited by famous Roman figures like Julius Caesar and the Emperor Augustus, the Roman influence is still very much evident in the town today. Enjoy an included visit to Tarragona’s amphitheatre, set against the backdrop of the blue Mediterranean Sea, where sporting and fighting events took place during the Roman era, before having some free time to explore at your own pace.
This afternoon, continue to the neighbouring city of Reus, birthplace of the famous Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi. Pay tribute to his genius with an included visit to the Gaudi centre, dedicated to the architect’s life and works. Then enjoy a walking tour around the interesting city centre where your guide will point out some of the Catalan modernist buildings this busy town has to offer. Have some free time for a spot of shopping in the pedestrianised area or to watch the world go by in one of the bustling squares whilst drinking a "vermouth", for which Reus is renowned, before returning to Cambrils.
Today is free to enjoy at your own leisure. Your guide will be happy to suggest places of interest to see and visit depending on your own tastes.
Panoramic Tour of Barcelona
A panoramic tour of Barcelona today will help you to get your bearings in this stunning city. As you drive through the streets your guide will point out incredible pieces of art & architecture in the style of Antoni Gaudi and other Catalan Modernist Artists. Your first stop is Montjuïc Viewing Point so you can see the entire city laid out before you. Next you move on to visit two of Gaudi’s most famous works, La Sagrada Família Church and Park Güell.
After lunch you will embark on a walking tour of Barcelona’s iconic Gothic Quarter. The Gothic Quarter or Barri Gòtic is the centre of the old city of Barcelona and many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement. The area is made up of a labyrinth of small streets running off the famous Las Ramblas, many of which open up to squares, which contain churches and basilicas and open air cafes where you can relax and watch the world go by.
You will have today free to spend at your leisure. Take a stroll on the beach, enjoy a cool drink and a few tapas, and perhaps do some souvenir shopping.
Today enjoy a guided excursion to the Monastery at Poblet, a 12th century Gothic monastery and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Poblet is one of the largest and most complete Cistercian abbeys in the world. Built between the 12th and 15th century, it is renowned for it stunning Gothic architecture During your included tour, you will see how the monks lived in this still active monastery and visit the burial tombs of the kings of Aragon in its magnificent 12th century church.
Finish your day with a stop at Montblanc, the home of Spain’s best preserved medieval walls. It was also at Montblanc that San Jordi slayed the monster dragon on the 23rd of April many, many years ago and this is commemorated with a plaque at the city’s gate. Enjoy some free time to explore the winding streets before returning back to Cambrils.
On your last free day, enjoy a relaxing day at your hotel or take a trip to the nearby beach.
