Explore the cobblestone streets and get to know your surroundings in this typical, relaxed Portuguese fishing village.
Along your walking tour, you may see fisherman’s wives selling souvenirs or fresh fish in their traditional long skirts with seven petticoats. The petticoats symbolise the seven virtues, seven days of the week, seven colours of the rainbow or the seventh wave of the ocean.
Also included is a return journey on the funicular up to Sitio, high above the main town to have a panoramic view over Nazaré on a clear day.
You will have the rest of the day free for relaxing and independent sightseeing in the area. Your guide will be happy to provide advice and suggestions for the best sights and activities.
After breakfast, depart for a full day guided excursion to Coimbra, site of the country's oldest and greatest university for the past five centuries and medieval capital of Portugal for over a hundred years. Visit the University of Coimbra (entrance included), the Royal Palace, the Chapel of St. Michael and the Baroque Library.
You will have some free time for lunch, shopping and sightseeing in this beautiful hillside city before returning to Nazaré.
Enjoy a day at leisure today. Why not visit one of the museums, churches, local shops, or go to the Sito area for a panoramic view of the bay and Nazaré. You might also wish to visit the Ermida da Memória chapel, site of the miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary.
Soak up the atmosphere of picturesque Nazaré. Explore its cobbled lanes, take a walk on its wide, sandy beach and perhaps enjoy a lunch of freshly caught grilled fish in the open air.
