View Dates & Prices

Istria, the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, is an incredibly beautiful region of Croatia. Rolling green hills overlook the lush valleys and sparkling sea, with little towns perched on the hilltops above. The peninsula is located at the head of the Adriatic between the Gulf of Trieste and the Bay of Kvarner.

Croatia’s Adriatic Coast has been welcoming holidaymakers for decades, but the region remains relatively untouched from mass tourism, meaning visitors experience the unique Croatian culture and lifestyle.

Charming villages and three of Croatia’s most attractive coastal towns, Pula, Rovinj and Poreč, await discovery during the included excursions. The traces of Roman and Venetian heritage are remarkably preserved throughout the region. Prepare to be charmed by exquisite churches, tiny village alleyways, and hidden coves with crystal clear waters.

Holiday highlights

The Amphitheatre in Pula

The most famous monument in Pula is the Amphitheatre, also known as the Pula Arena. It was built in the first century BC, around the same time as the Colosseum in Rome, and played home to many gladiator fights. It is thought that when it was originally built, the amphitheatre could hold up to 20,000 spectators and was later used for medieval fairs and military ceremonies.

Motovun

The medieval town of Motovun in northern Istria is perhaps one of the most famous and charming places in the region. Located on the hilltop, the town watches over the valley of the River Mirna. For centuries, tourists have been coming to Motovun to discover the history within its walls and appreciate the natural beauty of the valley.

Poreč

The former Roman colony of Poreč is rich in history, and features classic Romanesque architecture as well as stunning Venetian gothic palaces. There is something for everyone in Poreč, whether it’s exploring the historical city walls or relaxing on the pristine beaches that spread across 37km of coastline. Poreč is also home to several galleries and museums, many still housed in private dwellings which make for a unique experience.

Wines of Istra

The Phoenicians and Greeks introduced grapevines to Istria.  Today, numerous high quality wines are produced on the Peninsula, thanks to its fertile soil and sunny hillsides.  Istrian Malvazija is a pale gold wine with a pleasingly delicate freshness, while the native red Teran is purple to ruby red in colour and has a lively fruit aroma. Of special note are Istria’s muscat varieties ; Momjan Muscat and Poreč Muscat rose.
