Meet in Cork
Meet with your guide, Iain Mac Donald, in Kent Station in Cork and depart by coach for Bantry.
Kinalea Garden & Pinetree Lodge Garden
Visit to Kinalea Garden which has a collection of rare trees and shrubs including a woodland garden. In the front garden there is a rockery of ferns, heathers and grasses. In the centre of the rear lawn there is a curved scree Alpine Rockery. This echoes the shape of the highlight of the garden, which is the colourful perennial border with a cottage garden feel. The nearby sunken zen patio offers a collection of tropical plants & trees.
We also visit Pine Tree Lodge Garden en route to the hotel, a one acre garden, an open and windy site but south facing and frost free where native and exotic plants grow happily together.
Transfer to your hotel where we dine together as a group each evening.
Bantry House & Gardens and Glengarriff
Our first visit today is to Bantry House and Gardens for a guided tour of the house before visiting this wonderful garden; highlights include the Italianate Garden, the 'Hundred Steps' and the magnificent views over the bay. We then travel to Glengarriff where there is free time for lunch and a wander.
We take a short boat journey to Ilnacullin (Garnish) – this small island renowned for its beautiful garden. The formal Italianate and walled gardens are surrounded by a wild garden, which blends into the sea and mountain scenery.
This morning enjoy some time for a leisurely breakfast or stroll around Bantry.
Depart mid-morning to visit Carraig Abhainn in Durrus and enjoy a guided tour by the owner around this lovely garden, which is enhanced by a river and natural waterfalls and a wide variety of plants.
Free time for lunch at your leisure in Durrus before visiting our final garden of the day - Kilvarock - for a guided tour through this two acre terraced garden which overlooks Dunmanus Bay containing a collection of rare plants from both the Northern and Southern hemispheres.
