I recently ticked a big item off my bucket list by travelling to Beijing, Xi'an & Shanghai and seeing so many incredible sites including the Great Wall and the Terracotta Army.
Before I left, I was a little apprehensive of travelling to a destination that's perceived to be almost another world away from Ireland. We always get great feedback from customers who travel with us to China, however I was still unsure of what to expect.
On arrival, I discovered that there's no reason to be nervous of this culturally diverse country. As we’ve heard from many happy customers, our local guides in China really make this holiday amazing! Once you pass through immigration and collect your luggage in Beijing, you will be met by your Travel Department tour leader who will be eagerly awaiting your arrival with a welcome sign in hand.
As well as having a tour leader for the duration of your time in China, you will also have local guides in each city who will give you expert knowledge on their local area. You can rest assured that every detail of your trip will be taken care of so you can relax and enjoy your time in China. You will also see many things that you might miss if you were travelling on your own.
Your tour leaders and local guides are on hand to answer any of your questions throughout the trip. They will give you tips for things to do during your free time and will be happy to share with you some of their stories about life in China. They are so excited to receive visitors and are so proud to show you around their amazing country.
What is also great about the guides is that they have been working with Irish groups for so long that not only do they have fantastic English, they also speak some Irish too! Being met with a “Dhia Dhuit” and a “Conas a ta tu?” by our local guide Jack in Beijing was extremely comforting and the Molly Malone pub next door to the Legendale hotel certainly helped ease the cultural shock too!
After spending 7 days in China and meeting some of our local guides in Beijing, Xi’an & Shanghai, I believe the biggest benefit of travelling with Travel Department is the invaluable knowledge and expertise that our local guides can provide. Jack in Beijing, Joe in Xi’an and Jason in Shanghai whom I travelled with are all so passionate about their jobs and love working with Irish groups.
