This tour is based in the cathedral city of Exeter, which was the most south-westerly Roman fortified settlement in Britain. Historically interesting, it is now the centre of tourism in Devon, a county in southwest England.

It encompasses sandy beaches, fossil cliffs, medieval towns and moorland national parks and generally referred to as The English Riviera with its picturesque, south-coast harbour towns.

This tour will be led by Iain MacDonald, a qualified and experienced gardener and guide, he will be available at all times to help and advise you.

Holiday highlights

Exeter

Exeter is an ancient city dating back to the Roman era and is home to one of the most magnificent cathedrals that is one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Britain and worth a visit. Exeter is also home to underground passages that were built to bring clean water to medieval Exeter and these only ones open to the public in Britain.

Knightshayes Garden

This garden is located in the grounds of a gothic Victorian mansion set in the mid Devon countryside. The house is full of quirks and curiosities from gargoyles to carvings of the “seven deadly sins” The garden has one of the finest and most varied plant collections in the country and the walled garden has been restored to its former glory.

Cothay Manor Gardens

Cothay Manor Gardens consist of twelve acres of gardens surrounding the medieval manor. Many garden rooms, each a garden in itself, are set off a 200-metre yew walk. Fine trees, cottage garden, courtyards, and a river walk all help to make this a plants person garden.

RHS Gardens at Rosemoor

Travelling alongside Dartmoor National Park you will visit one of the best RHS gardens at Rosemoor. The garden consists of the original garden created by Lady Anne Berry plus the newer areas developed by the RHS – a series of different features and garden rooms that blend seamlessly into one.
