Located along the hills of the Douro River estuary, Porto is Portugal’s second largest city after Lisbon and is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Porto is a major producer of cork but is better known for its famous fortified Port wine.

A trip to Porto gives visitors a unique and authentic Portuguese experience with much of the traditions, culture of the city and the magnificent architecture remaining untouched from modern influences. The slight crumble of the pretty colourful buildings adds to the charm of the city.

Although hilly, Porto is fairly small and easily navigated by an extensive network of buses, the iconic vintage trams that whizz through the city and a modern metro system. The Funicular dos Guindais railway regularly shuttles people up and down the steep incline from the Ribeira quarter to the city centre, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the glorious views.

Please note that some excursions on this holiday will involve walking on hilly terrain and uneven surfaces.
