Holiday highlights

Krakow Christmas Markets

Served out of giant wooden barrels, the mulled wine flows as you peruse the festive stalls selling everything from sausages and the distinctive fried oscypek cheese to festive trinkets and woolen slippers.

Lost Wawel

This smartly conceived and executed exhibit presents the remaining fragments of medieval Wawel, including remnants of the Rotunda of the Virgin Mary (Krakow’s first church). A computer generated model of Wawel gives visitors a peek to the early 10th century construction.

The Market Square

The largest one in medieval Europe, it is framed by tenement houses, palaces and churches with their magnificent interiors.

The Cloth Hall (Sukiennice)

It houses plenty of shopping stalls and cafes. On the first floor there is the Gallery of Polish nineteenth-century art that shows a rich collection of paintings and sculptures.

Salt Mine Wieliczka - Suggestion for Day at Leisure

A listed UNESCO monument since 1978, the Wieliczka mine is thought to have been created by the forces of nature around 15 million years ago. The mine features nine floors, ranging from 64 meters’ to 327 meters’ in depth, with one shaft dating from medieval times.

Day 2 - Krakow

Morning

Krakow tour

Enjoy a half day walking tour of the magical city of Kraków. Here you will see the main square, visit St. Mary’s Church, and explore the Wawel Cathedral.

Day 3 - At Leisure

Morning

At leisure

Today will be free for shopping and sightseeing of your own choice. Your guide will be happy to suggest places of interest to see and visit. If you would like to visit Auschwitz it is possible to arrange your own visit from Krakow (charges paid locally). This devastating place is where thousands of people were held and lost their lives during World war II. You will learn tales of former prisoners - including Anne and Otto Frank - see the gas chambers, and learn about how the camp was eventually liberated. Wieliczka Salt Mines (UNESCO Heritage Site) it is also possible to arrange your own visit from Krakow (charges paid locally), contain a labyrinth of underground tunnels all shaped by hand and cut out from the salt. There are altars and chapels, including the highlight, the Chapel of the Blessed Kinga, where Mass is sometimes celebrated.

*Please Note

On the 25th of November, due to the lack of local Krakow Christmas markets, this departure includes a full day excursion to Zakopane a resort town at the foot of the Tatras Mountains. Enjoy a short guided walk through its charming centre and take in the unique folk atmosphere and scenic landscape. The large market along Krópówki Street sells a variety of local crafts and products. You will have the afternoon at leisure to shop or further sight-see at your own pace before transferring back to your hotel in Krakow.
