Holiday highlights

Gdańsk Christmas Markets

The Gdańsk Christmas Fair takes place at The Coal Market, also known as Targ Węglowy. The Coal Market is an impressive cobbled square that regularly hosts open air events in the city but at Christmas time it is transformed into a quaint Christmas village offering decorations, arts & crats, handmade jewellery, woollen scarves and socks, children's toys, mulled wine, hot cider and an amazing selection of Polish sweet treats. You’ll have some free time to explore the Christmas Markets by yourself to buy your handmade gifts and take in the atmosphere.

Gdańsk Old Town

The Old Town in Gdańsk offers a perfect mix of historic buildings, cobbled streets and impressive architecture. If you’re a fan of gothic architecture then you should definitely consider a visit to the Church of St. Catherine. We recommend taking a walk around this historic area and taking in some of the highlights along the way which include Gdańsk Granaries, Gdańsk Mills, the Town Hall and the Monument of King Sobieski.

Mariacka Street

Directly behind St Mary’s Church, you’ll find the magnificent Mariacka Street. This magical street is marked by St. Mary's Gate, which opens out onto the Motlawa river banks. The street was destroyed in the Second World War, but it has since been restored to its original Gothic style. If you fancy some shopping, there is a great selection of antique and jewellery shops and an even better selection of cafés and restaurants to relax in afterwards. The street has a quaint, old town feel with its cobblestone pavements and ornate buildings with decorative porches. Mariacka street looks best at night, when its gothic lanterns give it a ghostly feel.

St. Mary's Church (Kosciol Mariacki)

St. Mary's Church, also known as Kosciol Mariacki is said to be the largest brick church in Europe. It was founded in 1245 and was the only important building to remain unscathed after the war. The interior of the church is decorated with paintings from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras.

Neptune’s Fountain

Neptune's Fountain is a historic fountain in Gdańsk and is a must-see for any visitor to the city. It was created in 1549 as a bronze statue of the sea god and converted into a fountain in 1633. During WWII, the statue was removed and hidden away for safe keeping along with many of the city's other treasures, until 1954. The fountain is situated on Long Market, by the entrance to Artus Court and is surrounded by colourful and ornate houses.

Long Lane

The Long Lane in Gdańsk is the real heart of the city, leading from Golden Gate to Long Market and Green Gate. Lined with beautiful buildings and known for its impressive architecture, it is also the city’s main shopping street. It boasts an array of cafés and restaurants as well as a lively, vibrant atmosphere.
