The Sorrento Peninsula is a popular holiday destination, positioned close to Naples in Campania, offering some of southern Italy’s most famous sights.

The unique landscape of hills and valleys is adorned with scented lemon orchards and silvery olive groves, with dramatic cliff tops giving way to picturesque fishing villages.

Overlooking the scenic Bay of Naples, it is the perfect location for a touring holiday, with easy access to the spectacular Amalfi Drive, the charming town of Sorrento, the romantic island of Capri and the ancient ruins of Pompeii.

The old town of Sorrento is a labyrinth of atmospheric cobbled streets, filled with interesting shops, characterful bars, historic churches, pavement cafés and tiny alleyways.

Holiday highlights

Sorrento Town

Set on a spectacular headland, Sorrento boasts wonderful views across the Bay of Naples to Capri and Ischia. The town’s historic quarter radiates from Via San Cesareo, where there’s excellent shopping and a host of restaurants and pavement cafés.  Further highlights include the peaceful cloisters of San Francesco, the Duomo (cathedral), the Correale Museum and atmospheric Marina Grande, the original fishing village at sea level.

Capri

This idyllic island is home to rare birds, historic churches, magnificent villas and fashionable hotels, and has been a playground for films stars and holiday makers for centuries. Chic Capri town is located on a plateau, high over the sea. You will have free time to explore the pedestrianized maze of small lanes, lined with designer shops, stylish hotels and buzzing with visitors. During the day the light dips the island into different colours and enchants the viewer.

Amalfi Coast

The winding road from the Sorrento Peninsula to Amalfi is one of Europe’s most scenic routes, with views over the pretty village of Positano, Capri and the Galli Islands.  The former maritime superpower of Amalfi is today a welcoming resort town, with a beautiful cathedral dedicated to Sant’Andrea.

Mount Vesuvius

One of the few active volcanoes left in Europe, Mount Vesuvius offers great hiking trails and spectacular views. Infamous for destroying the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79AD, it is now a national park and a walker’s paradise.

Inlaid Woodwork

Sorrento has a proud tradition of  handcrafted 'Intarsio', or marquetry. You can see fine examples of it, including heirloom furniture, at the Bottega della Tarsia Lignea Museum. There are several showrooms and shops in Sorrento where you can buy smaller inlaid woodwork items such as pretty music boxes.
