View Dates & Prices

This festive season, discover the magic of Christmas in some of the most picturesque German towns dotted along the River Rhine.

Arrive in Düsseldorf and enjoy the merry atmosphere as you weave through stalls selling gifts, crafts and seasonal food and drink, before transferring to Cologne port to embark your 6-night cruise. Travelling on board the 4 Star MS Amadeus Silver II, you will experience the elegance of a boutique hotel as you sail along the river, with ports of call including Koblenz, Speyer, Mainz and Strasbourg. Much smaller than an ocean liner, the ship will take you into the heart of most cities you visit, giving you more time to visit the attractions and enjoy your time ashore.

As well as a panoramic city tour of Cologne, you will enjoy guided walking tours of Koblenz and Strasbourg and Mainz, with time to browse the wonderful array of stalls at local Christmas Markets. These tours are led by expert local guides who will share their wealth of knowledge and take you to the highlights of each destination.

As it is tradition in Germany, Christmas Day is celebrated on the 24th December during this River Cruise. There will a guided half-day city tour of Strasbourg on the 25th December only.

Holiday highlights

Cologne

Germany’s fourth largest city spans the river Rhine and was founded almost 2000 years ago by the Romans. The city was utterly devastated during the Second World War and is now characterised by the contrast between modern post-war architecture and the carefully and painstakingly re-built Old Town.

Cologne Christmas Markets

Cologne is home to some of Europe’s best Christmas Markets, the most famous of which can be found beneath Cologne Cathedral and is home to roughly 150 wooden market stalls. Here you’ll find a selection of sweet delicacies, regional specialities and traditional mulled wine, as well as gifts and crafts including wood carvings, glass balls, ceramics and children’s toys. Avid market-goers may also choose from excellent markets across the city, some of which can be found in the Old Town, the shopping district, the harbour area and Stadtgarten Park.

4 Star MS Amadeus Silver II

A modern and elegant ship, with numerous amenities and entertainment on board but with a more relaxed and intimate atmosphere compared to an ocean liner. You can enjoy wonderful views on one of the sun decks, lounge or bar areas as you cruise past some of the best scenery in Europe.

Koblenz

Koblenz is one of the oldest towns in Germany, with over 2000 years of history to explore. The city straddles the banks of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers and is perfectly positioned for exploring the Rhine Valley. Stroll around the romatic streets of Old Town Koblenz and explore some of the historical highlights of this ancient city which include the old castle of Ehrenbreitstein, Stolzenfels Castle, The Basilica of St. Castor, The Electoral Palace and the beautiful Rhine Gardens.

Strasbourg

Strasbourg, formerly Alsace, in northeastern France has a unique culture and charm stemming from both German and French influences over time. Spend your free time exploring the old town’s winding streets, enjoy a beer in the quaint taverns by the canals in Petite France and marvel at the Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame which features daily shows from its astronomical clock and sweeping views of the Rhine River.

Upper Middle Rhine Valley

The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is a sixty- five kilometer stretch along the river Rhine. Both sides of the valley boast castles, historic towns and vineyards. The Upper Middle Rhine Valley has been one of the main routes for cultural exchange between Southern and Northern Europe throughout history and it was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites for a unique combination of geological, historical, cultural and industrial reasons.
