Plitvice Lakes National Park

Zagreb

Located Northwest of the country along the Sava River, Zagreb is the capital of Croatia. Distinguished by its Austro – Hungarian Architecture, this city is full of culture, from its historic medieval old town, local green parks to the sightseeing attractions of Zagreb Cathedral and 13th century Mark’s Church.

Opatija

This coastal town of Opatija is a location full of beauty and tranquillity. Rijeka

Ethnographic Museum

Founded in 1919 and located in Ivan Mažuranić Square in Zagreb, Croatia. The Ethnographic Museum is divided into three cultural zones: the Pannonian, Dinaric and Adriatic and exhibits 2800 items on display from a collection of over 80,000 items illustrating the history of the traditional Croatian lifestyle and culture.

Day 1 – Travel to Croatia

Upon arrival in Zagreb, you will be met by our local representative in the airport and transferred to your hotel. Along the way, your guide will provide plenty of information about your holiday and answer any questions you may have.

You will have the remainder of the day at leisure to unpack, relax and explore the surroundings of your hotel.

Day 2 – Zagreb Walking Tour

Discover Zagreb

This morning, depart for a half day tour of Zagreb with your expert local guide and discover the most beautiful corners and attractions this fascinating city has to offer. Take a stroll around Zagreb’s charming old streets in the medieval Old Town, its green parks and beautiful architecture.

Afternoon

At Leisure

In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore or shop at your own leisure. Your local guide will be happy to offer suggestions of activities to suit your interests.

Day 3 – At Leisure

At Leisure

Today will be a full day at leisure to spend as you wish. You may simply relax at your hotel or independently explore the streets of Zagreb’s Old Town.

Day 4 – Plitvice Lakes National Park & Opatija

Plitvice Lakes National Park

Today you will embark on a full day excursion around the enchanting Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, enjoy a 2.5 hrs walking tour through Croatia’s oldest and largest national park taking in the beautiful surroundings and admire the lakes, waterfalls, nature and wildlife. A panoramic shuttle bus will be used for some small parts of the route. Appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended!

Afternoon

Travel to Opatija

In the afternoon, continue your journey to the coastal town of Opatija on the Adriatic Sea. Check in to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day exploring the town at your leisure. Your local guide will be happy to offer suggestions of activities to suit your interests.

Day 5 – Rijeka & Kastav

Rijeka & Kastav

After breakfast, you will be met by your guide who will take you on a tour of Rijeka, your first stop during this full day excursion. Your walking tour starts in the city centre where you will discover places such as the Modello Palace, Church of St. Nicholas, Rijeka's marketplace and the Korzo, which is Rijeka's most famous pedestrian street. The walk continues through the city entrance to the St. Vitus Cathedral finishing at the Leaning Tower and its church. After the city tour and some free time, continue to Trsat for a visit of the Sanctuary of Trsat, the monastery and Trsat Castle with its city walls. It is believed that the castle lies at the exact spot of an ancient Illyrian and Roman fortress. Afterwards, proceed to your last stop, Kastav, a historic Istrian hilltop town with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. This town was built as a fortress with 7 towers from which only a part is well preserved. For the short but steep walk uphill to the centre, sturdy shoes are recommended!

Day 6 – At Leisure

Enjoy another day at leisure today. Chat with your guide during the previous day’s tour and pick up some tips and information on how to make the most of your free day.

Day 7 – Pazin & Pula

Pazin & Pula

Depart your hotel for a guided tour of Pazin, a small town in central Istria. The old part of this medieval town is situated on a hill about 130 metres above the abyss called Jama. Learn about the history of this quaint place where a visit to the Ethnographic Museum is included. This museum was established in 1955 and holds up to 7,500 ethnographic artefacts of textile, agricultural tools and objects of everyday life in Istrian villages from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Afterwards, you will continue to Pula, famous for its Roman architecture. Highlights include the Triumphal Arch of the Sergi, dating back to the 1st century B.C., Hercules’ Gate and the Twin Gates, the Temple of Augustus and the Amphitheatre (entrance included). Pula’s Amphitheatre was built at the same time as the magnificent Colosseum in Rome and could seat about 20,000 spectators.

Day 8 – Return Home

Time to bid farewell to Croatia. This morning you will be transferred to the airport with guide assistance for your flight home.
