Holiday highlights

Nessebar Old Town

Jutting out into the Black Sea on a rocky peninsula, the old town of Nessebar is more than 3,000-year-old and was originally a Thracian settlement Mesembria, before becoming a Greek colony at the beginning of the 6th century BC. Among the city’s remains are the acropolis, a temple of Apollo, an agora and a wall from the Thracian fortifications. With its stunning location, surrounded by water, as well as its many ruins, museums, shops and cafés, it’s an excellent spot to while away the hours.

Sozopol

The ancient town of Sozopol was founded by the Greeks in the 5th century BC and is now one of Bulgaria’s most popular seaside resort towns. The old town sits on a small peninsula, filled with twisty cobbled streets and quaint wooden houses. The town is becoming increasingly known for its musical and artistic scene, and is also home to great beaches, as well as bars and cafés facing out onto the seafront.

St. Anastasia Island

There is no better way to experience the Beauty of the Black Sea than by boat, and this is how you will reach the rocky island of St. Anastasia. A volcanic island located in Burgas Bay, St. Anastasia is unique in that it is the only Bulgarian Island which has a church on it. The church houses murals dating from the 14th century, while the island’s former monastery was converted into a prison in 1923, often referred to as “The Bulgarian Alcatraz”.
