Salamanca 

Salamanca is a medium size city which is best explored on foot. Getting lost in its ancient buildings or strolling through the streets, you will find a city with a rich past, and a vibrant cultural atmosphere. Salamanca is also a bustling city with lively cafés, terraces and bars, perfect for a relaxing afternoon in the sun. Most of the city centre is pedestrianised inviting visitors to walk around and discover the heart of the city. In the centre you will find a rich variety of museums, theatres, cinemas, shops, and restaurants. Highlights include a visit to the famous University of Salamanca, Plaza Mayor, the central square where people meet for a coffee or lunch in the sunny terraces.

Valladolid 

Valladolid is a city best known for its class, sophistication and architectural diversity. Valladolid was a city of Kings, Queens and prominent figures of Spanish history. It was here that King Fernando and Queen Isabel married in 1469 and it served as the venue of the Spanish Court on several occasions. Today it is one of the largest cities in Castilla-Leon. It is a perfect place for shopping as well as relaxing with plenty of charming cafés, terraces, and leisure activities. No visit to Valladolid would be complete without a walk through its streets, discovering its monuments, enjoying its gastronomy and exploring its artistic heritage. 

Madrid 

Madrid, Spain's central capital, is a cosmopolitan city, well-known for its beautiful weather, delicious food and cultural offering. Madrid is renowned for its variety of museums housing European art, as well as its wider variety of cafes, restaurants and bars. Visitors can spend a day sightseeing in the heart of old Hapsburg Madrid with a visit to the famous Plaza Mayor, and the nearby baroque Royal Palace and Armory, displaying historic weaponry.

Trip Itinerary - Day by day

Day 1 – Travel to Spain

Travel to Spain

Upon arrival in Madrid, you will be met by our local representative and transferred by coach to your hotel in Salamanca.

Day 2 – Salamanca

Half Day

Salamanca

The historic city centre of Salamanca has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your half day guided walking tour will take in many of its highlights, such as Plaza Mayor and the famous University of Salamanca, the oldest in Europe. A visit to the Cathedral of Salamanca is also included. After the tour, spend the afternoon exploring the Old Town at your own pace and discovering its many charms.

Day 3 – Avila and Alba de Tormes

Excursion to Avila and Alba de Tormes

Depart your hotel this morning for a full day excursion to Avila and Alba de Tormes. Avila is a a World Heritage City, sheltered by the Sierra Gredos Mountains. Behind the city walls, there are a variety of churches and Renaissance palaces that bear witness to the past. The city wall has nine gates that provide access to the city, of which the most spectacular is Puerta del Alcázar (Gate of the Fortress). Being the birthplace of Saint Teresa has left its mark across the city, both inside and outside the city walls, with a large number of religious buildings linked to the Saint's life. You will also visit Alba de Tormes where Saint Teresa has died. If you take a short walk through the city, you can understand how important it was to her and the role it played in her life. She is also present in the town's gastronomy, as there are popular sweets called "Yemas de Santa Teresa". You will return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Day 4 – At Leisure

You will have a full day to relax and enjoy Salamanca at leisure. Your guide will be happy to offer suggestions for activities and places to see in the surrounding area.

Day 5 – Valladolid

Full Day

Excursion to Valladolid

Depart your hotel this morning for a full day excursion to Valladolid. The city on the Pisuerga River is home to an interesting collection of Renaissance architecture comprising of houses, palaces and emblematic buildings such as the College of San Gregorio (today the site of the National Sculpture Museum) and the Church of San Pablo. You will also visit the Cathedral of Valladolid during this excursion. The city has a lively atmosphere with plenty of artistic and cultural activities. It is an ideal location for shopping, as well as for relaxing with plenty of charming cafés with terraces. You will return to your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 6 – City Tour of Madrid & Return Home

Time to say ‘adios’ to Spain. Transfer from your hotel for a half day guided city tour of Madrid before your return flight home in the evening.
