Holiday highlights

Acropolis

The Acropolis stands sentinel over Athens. The city was once a showcase of colossal buildings, lavishly coloured and gilded, and of gargantuan statues, some of bronze, others of marble plated with gold and encrusted with precious stones. Now in ruins, the cool grandeur of the bare marble is still breathtaking.

The Parthenon

This is a temple of the Greek goddess Athena, built in the 5th century BC on the Athenian Acropolis. It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of ancient Greece and of Athenian democracy, and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments.

Delphi

After the Acropolis, Delphi - site of the Delphi Oracle and home to the Temple of Apollo - is the most popular archaeological site in Greece. Delphi in ancient times was considered the centre of the known world - the place where heaven and earth met and where man was closest to God.

Mystras

One of the most exciting cities in the Peloponnese, Mystras lies on the slope of the hill with the fortress at its top. It is an open-air museum; a reminder of a glorious era of power and culture. Its fortifications and churches, palaces and mansions, roads and fountains, charm thousands of visitors daily and offer them valuable insights into the evolution and culture of the Byzantines.

Spetses

This is a beautiful island in the Saronic Gulf, with rich vegetation and many pine trees. It has various wonderful sandy beaches and lovely secluded bays. Its villages are picturesque and authentic and its capital is a real architectural beauty, full of two-storey neoclassical houses with wooden balconies, coloured walls, and narrow stone-paved alleys.

Moussaka

Perhaps the most widely recognized of all Greek dishes, this oven-baked casserole of layered eggplant and spiced meat filling topped with a creamy bechamel will be the highlight of any Greek meal, enjoy.
