Life on board your ship

On board the RV Jayavarman

Life on the Jayavarman is one superior experience after another. Here’s an example of a typical day on board the ship:

You will step out on to your private balcony, sipping your cocktail made with fruit from the land. The sun sets gently and the charming countryside becomes a silhouette shining on the river. You soon realize that you’ve never been in a place so peaceful and so serene, occasionally punctuated by a child’s raucous laughter ringing from a nearby village.

Darkness descends, signalling the time for a traditional feast. Food from the region is served by waiters who, by now, have become your friends. They are a tad shy yet they are proud to put on display their traditional attire and share their culture with you. After a night’s sleep, the soft rays of the sun warm your face. Thai Chi lessons await you on the upper Sundeck, ready to connect you to the energy that is so plentiful in this cultured and spiritual place. Holiday highlights

Củ Chi Tunnels
These were the tunnels which the Viet Cong used during the Vietnam War. The tunnels are more than 250 km long and three levels deep. They were an unparalleled engineering marvel, and today the remaining tunnels have been restored to allow tourist to get a unique experience as to what underground life was like.
Presidential Palace
Construction of this palace began in 1900 and was completed in 1906. It was built for the French Governing General when Vietnam achieved independence in 1954. Ho Chi Minh refused to live in the palace but did still use it when important guests came to visit. There is a traditional Vietnamese stilt house built on the grounds of the palace.
Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica
This marvellous neo-Romanesque style building was established by French colonists in the 19th century. It is situated in the very heart of Ho Chi Minh City at the Paris Square. All materials necessary for the construction of the basilica were imported from France.
Angkor Wat
The largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat was first a Hindu, then a Buddhist temple and is the top attraction in Cambodia. The temple is the most important in Cambodia and has been kept largely intact despite the years of conflict in the country.
Mekong River
The Mekong River is one of the longest in the world and stretches through no less than six countries. Along its banks are whole communities of fishermen, floating villages and wonderful scenery giving the visitor a fantastic insight to the way of life along its banks and its importance to the people who live there.
