From your relaxing lakeside base, you will explore the lake’s enchanting gardens and picturesque villages.  Bask in the beauty of Villa Balbianello and Villa Carlotta, where the gardens attached to both of these magnificent villas date back to the 16th century, showcasing geometrical schema, stairs and terraces, statues and fountains.


Explore Varenna, Como town and the famous towns of Bellagio, known as 'the Pearl of the Lake', with free time for sightseeing and shopping, or relaxing with fine coffee or a glass of local wine.

The Italian Lake region is renowned for its pleasant and mild Mediterranean climate throughout the year. Just as the sea would, the Lake has a moderating influence on the climate. A pleasant breeze blows from the lake during the hot and sunny summer months and during the winter months, despite the altitude, the temperature is kept above freezing, limiting snow and frost to the higher Alpine areas.

Food & Drink
Northern Italian food tends to be richer and heartier than the south with delicious cheese and cured meats a common feature. There is plenty of variety available, but for a true Italian experience try tasty risottos, thin crust pizzas and slow cooked meats matched with a delicious glass of local wine.

Villa Melzi
The beautiful English styled gardens at Villa Melzi in Bellagio are enriched with sculptures, Japanese maples, American redwoods, rhododendrons and azaleas. They were designed by the architect Luigi Canonica and the botanist Luigi Villoresi.
Bellagio
Known as the ‘pearl of the lake’, Bellagio is home to incredibly well-preserved historic buildings, narrow cobbled lanes and chic shops selling beautiful Italian handmade items including scarves, jewellery and handbags.  The town is small enough to walk around taking in the beautiful gardens and views of the lake.

Day 1 - Travel to Italy

Upon arrival in Milan, transfer by private coach to your hotel, situated on the shores of Lake Como.

Day 2 - Bellagio & Villa Melzi

Bellagio & Villa Melzi Gardens

Spend the morning relaxing at leisure in your peaceful Lake Como surroundings. In the afternoon visit Bellagio, ‘The Pearl of Lake Como.’ Its famous cafes and restaurants provide the perfect place to soak up the lake's famous panorama. The village is characterised by century-old buildings, stone lanes and picturesque cobbled stairways, filled with shops showcasing the finest Italian wares. The tour will conclude at the beautiful Villa Melzi Gardens, designed by the architect Luigi Canonica and the botanist Luigi Villoresi.

Day 3 - Villa Balbianello & Varenna

Villa Balbianello & Varenna

Commence your half day excursion travelling by private boat to Villa Balbianello. Built by Cardinal Durini at the end of the 18th century; the villa rises on top of a wooded promontory. The garden is a masterpiece, built on terraces, majestic plane trees, magnolias, cypresses, wisteria and azaleas; it’s truly a classical Italianate garden. Then transfer by boat for Varenna for a visit to the Monastery garden. 

Day 4 - City of Como

City of Como

Following breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a full day guided excursion to the ancient city of Como. The city contains numerous works of art, churches, gardens, museums, theatres, parks and palaces. The tour will include the Como Cathedral, one of the most important buildings in the region. It is commonly described as the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy and it contains a number of 16th century paintings by Bernardino Luini and Gaudenzio Ferrari. Enjoy some free time for shopping and lunch.  Return to your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 5 - Villa Carlotta

Today, you will have the morning free to relax. Depart at 2pm to walk to the nearby villa and garden of Villa Carlotta, situated in the village of Tremezzo. The villa has one of the most beautiful gardens in the region. Planting varies from shady ferneries to elegant pergolas, smothered with the perfumed Trachelospermum jasminoides, and urns overflowing with Hibiscus and Citrus fruit. You also visit the Museum to admire the wonderful views of Lake Como from its balconies and one of the most famous masterpieces of Antonio Canova.

Day 6 - At Leisure & Return Home

At Leisure & Return Home

Enjoy a relaxing day in by the pool or take a return trip to the gardens or Bellagio with Frances before departing for Milan and your evening flight to Dublin.
