Depart for Donegal & Oakfield Park
Depart from Dublin by coach, escorted by your guide Iain MacDonald. Your first stop will be a visit to the Oakfield Park, one of the winners of the All Ireland Garden competition, for a guided tour with the Head Gardener. These gardens have been extensively restored since 1996, and the original walled garden is laid out as a formal pleasure garden with ponds, rills and flower borders. Lawns, seating areas, a Victorian style greenhouse and shaped yew hedges give the garden a graceful air.
Cluain na d'Tor Nursery Gardens
On today’s excursion, enjoy a scenic drive through the Blue Stack Mountains towards the northern coast of Donegal. At Falcarragh, you will visit the Cluain na d'Tor Nursery Gardens, a plantsman’s garden specialising in tender and seaside plants. Surrounded by natural wildflower meadows and sheltered by shrubs, this garden experiments in growing rarities and tender perennials, which complement the contemporary sculpture.
Glenveagh Castle Gardens
In the afternoon, you will visit the world famous Glenveagh Castle Gardens, where you will enjoy free time for lunch before having a guided tour of both house and garden.
Today, you will visit three wonderful private gardens, beginning with Bruckless House. The gardens, which are in the continuing process of being refurbished by the present owner, surround an 18th Century Georgian House. Continue to Lower Cranny, home to conservatory plants, shrubs, herbaceous and trees, where the garden is a haven for wildlife with a natural stream, lake and woodland. Finally, you will visit Seaview, where all year round colour and interest abound in this delightful garden.
This morning, you will visit Salthill Garden, a garden that surrounds an early 18th century house complete with walled garden. The original kitchen garden has been transformed into a series of mixed planting beds, and vegetables are also grown in the traditional ‘lazy bed’ west of Ireland style. Afterwards, depart for Dublin, with a stop for a light lunch (at own expense) en route.
