Mount Etna & Winery

Europe's largest volcano and one of the world’s most active, Mount Etna dominates the landscape around Taormina. At over 3,300 metres high, Etna and its slopes are part of the national park, Parco Naturale dell'Etna. With alpine forests and deserts of lava on its upper levels, the volcano’s lower slopes are home to vineyards, orchards and even an 18 hole golf course. Enjoy a visit to a local vineyard and take part in wine tasting.

Day 1 - Travel to Sicily

Travel to Sicily

Upon landing in Catania, you will be met by our local representative in the airport, who will escort you to your hotel. As you travel to your hotel, your guide will share some information about the local region, suggest activities for you to enjoy and answer any questions you may have.

Day 2 - Godfather Tour & Taormina

Godfather Tour

This morning you will visit the towns of Savoca and Forza D'Agrò, the location of many scenes in the film of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather. You will notice the countryside with its old huts and houses made of rocks, old wood, bamboo, whatever the land had to offer. You will remain fascinated by the ancient walls made of stone and earth and the church of San Michele, then see the Catacomb of the Convent of Cappuccini. Bar Vitelli, which is still a functioning establishment, was featured in the motion picture as the place where Corleone asked Apollonia’s father to meet his daughter; here it is possible to enjoy a typical Sicilian granite (frozen granite). Continue the tour to the village of Forza D’Agrò located on the lower peak of a small mountain, while on the higher peak that overlooks the town are the remains of Norman castle.

Afternoon

Taormina

This afternoon you will visit Taormina, a charming coastal town just 6km from Giardini Naxos. Explore the colourful maze of narrow streets and terraces and enjoy a guided tour of Taormina’s famous Greek Theatre.

Day 3 – At Leisure

Today you can enjoy a chance to discover Sicily at your own pace. Ask your guide to recommend some places according to your tastes.

Day 4 - Syracuse & Noto

Syracuse & Noto

Today you will visit the spellbinding city of Syracuse, whose historic heart is located on the island of Ortigia. Sightseeing highlights include the Arethusa Fountain and Cathedral, as well as the city's UNESCO protected archaeological area, with its Greek Theatre, the Latomie and the spectacular Ear of Dionysius. Then you will visit Noto, capital of the baroque and often called ‘Il Giardino di Pietra’ (the stone garden) for the richness of art that you can find here. Noto became a world heritage site in 2002, thanks also to its spectacular cathedral that we will be able to visit after the long closure for restauration.

Day 5 - At Leisure

At Leisure

Today is another free day to spend at leisure in Sicily. Your guide will be happy to make suggestions of places to see and things to do in the area.

Day 6 - Mount Etna & Wine tasting

Etna & Winery

Today you will explore the slopes of the Mount Etna. 1900 metres above sea level, enjoy the astonishing panoramic views over the coast and countryside where you can take beautiful photos. Then on the way down, visit a wine producer and be pleased by tasting its wine with some typical Sicilian cheese, salame, olives, bruschetta, etc.

The rest of the day is free to enjoy at your own pace You can relax by the sea or visit to nearby Taormina for sightseeing, shopping, etc.
