Massimiliano, or Max for short, is a certified tour guide and has been leading Travel Department tour groups in Tuscany since 2006. Prior to this, he has also worked as a guide in France, Greece, England and Spain. Max loves introducing Travel Department customers to the beautiful city of Lucca, and Cinque Terre (the ‘Five lands’) in particular. Max loves being a tour guide because he is constantly meeting new people. Sometimes he even gets to indulge his first love - singing and acting - in front of our groups! Max is originally from Puglia in the south of Italy. He has lived in some of the biggest and best cities in the world; Los Angeles, New York & Paris to name but a few - but Portugal is his favourite holiday destination, because of the weather, the rich history and the great surfing.
Suzana was born and raised in Dubrovnik, but spent a part of her life living in Germany. She studied tourism and has been working as a guide for nine years. Suzana enjoys her work as a guide because it gives her the opportunity to share her knowledge, meet new people and show them all the beautiful things Croatia has to offer. She spends her free time reading, listening to music, inline skating and meeting her friends.
After completing a degree in international relations, Roberto became a qualified tour guide in Madeira and pursued a master's degree in communications. He is praised by Travel Department customers for his kindness, knowledge and good humour. In his free time, Roberto enjoys walking around the beautiful Madeiran mountains, reading and spending time with his family. Click here for our video featuring Roberto.
Renate has been working exclusively with Travel Department for over six years. Before becoming a tour guide for Travel Department, she worked with local and international travel agencies. She lives in the small town of Arco in the Trento province with her family. During her free time, Renate loves to spend time with her family, read and practice meditation.
Irene, one of our tour guides in Rome, has a background in education development, modern foreign languages and tourism economics. She spent a year in St Petersburg, Russia studying language and culture and is currently studying to attain a degree in literature with a focus on art history. Irene is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Russian. In her spare time she enjoys going to the theatre, photography and travelling.
Carol has worked as a tour guide in Italy, and in particular the Lake Como region for the last 15 years. She has been leading Travel Department groups for the last five years and loves getting to meet new people each week.
Originally born in Kenya, Carol's education as a tour guide has been completely self-taught and she takes pride in knowing the Lake Como Region inside and out. She also speaks a number of languages including Italian, English and French
Born to British parents in Calella, near Barcelona, Danny has lived in Spain all of his life. He read English at the University of Barcelona and has worked as a tour manager for many years. A keen traveller, he knows Spain very well and enjoys introducing visitors to Andalucia, Madrid and central Spain.
Laura is a certified Tour Guide and has been working for Travel Department for the last seven years. Laura loves the social side of being a tour guide, getting to meet new people is one of the best parts of the job and she is still in contact with some customers she met over many years.
Laura is fluent in Italian, Spanish and English and has worked as a tour guide in England, France and Spain as well as her native Italy.
Laura loves all the destinations she brings our customers to but Tuscany and the walking tours which she leads would be her favourite. Laura loves to travel when she gets the chance. South America and the Far East are next on the list of places she would love to visit.
Beverley was born and grew up in London but moved to Spain as a teenager to attend university and has lived here ever since! She has worked extensively in tourism in Majorca but has found her real passion in tour guiding and really enjoys sharing her inside knowledge of the island with its visitors. On the rare occasions when Bev is not working she likes to travel, cook and entertain her friends.
From a young age, Dodi was attracted to the history of Ancient Egypt, especially the Pharaonic period. Born in Cairo, he received his tour guide license from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism. It is a dream come true for Dodi to share his passion and knowledge of Ancient Egypt with people from all over the world. Fluent in English and Spanish, as well as his native Arabic, he has been leading tours around Egypt for Travel Department since 2007. When not working, Dodi enjoys travelling and will not stop until he sees the whole world.
Born in Saint Tropez, Brigitte now lives in Nice, on the French Rivera. After High School, she spent seven years studying and working in the United States, returning to France in 1982 to obtain her diploma from the local hotel school. Since then, she has been working in a travel agency and as a tour leader, guiding people from all over the world around France. Brigitte likes to paint in her spare time and dreams that when she retires, she will spend her days painting in a garden in Provence.
Christiann has been working as a tour manager and a city guide in Norway, Sweden and Denmark for the past 10 years. She was born in Normandy in the North of France before relocating to Oslo. Norway is a fantastic country and she loves sharing it with Travel Department customers. From the beautiful Fjords to the fabulous local cuisine and the rich culture- Norway has something for everyone. Viking history and the North mythology is an area in particular which she has studied so she takes great pride in telling visitors about her heritage. She loves travelling and learning about other cultures taking in the modern architecture and art but hiking is her number one love. She loves nothing better than getting out in the fresh air and taking in the sights.
Martin has worked as a tour guide in the Trentino & South Tirol regions of Italy for the last 20 years. Martin loves being a tour guide as he is constantly on the move with people of different nationalities and he loves to learn about different cultures. Martin has been a guide for Travel Department for the last 6 years and loves introducing our customers to the Lake Garda region of Italy. Asides from Italian & English; Martin also speaks German, French and Spanish. In his spare time, Martin loves to travel with Alaska, Switzerland & South America being amongst his favourite holiday destinations.
Teresa loves her job as a tour guide for Portugal, showing customers the beauty of her country. She has been with Travel Department for many years, leading groups around Lisbon and the Estoril Coast. She enjoys travelling with her family every year to new and exciting destinations, where she finds it hard not to bring her tour guide passion and expertise when visiting monuments and other historical sites.
Meet Francois Munier, one of our guides on the Cote d'Azur. Francois was born and raised in Nice, but left for Dublin where she spent a year improving her English. Francois has always had a love for tourism and worked for a number of flight companies in Nice airport after her initial studies. In 2010 she successfully gained her Tourism Card and has been working as a tour guide ever since. Francois loves being a tour guide because of the people she gets to meet, but above all she loves the Cote d'Azur and looks to share her knowledge whenever she gets the chance.
Joe has been involved in the travel business since 1982 after he obtained a bachelor degree in English Literature in Guangzhou Institute of Foreign Languages. He has worked with Travel Department since 2004, leading guided tours of China and Hong Kong. In his spare time, Joe looks after wild animals and plays golf. He has travelled extensively throughout Europe and America. His favourite travel destination is Los Angeles.
Whether sightseeing in Chicago’s “windy city”, cosmopolitan Toronto, Montreal’s old town or charming Kingston along the St Lawrence River; venturing out into the breathtaking Niagara Falls; “leaf-peeping” in the New England countryside or walking by the beautiful sailboats along the docks of Newport, Rhode Island, you are sure to enjoy Elizabeth’s entertaining and informative tours. Elizabeth is a licensed New England and American east coast tour director. She is also a professional singer, a humorist and a former French teacher. Bienvenue!
Ken has been a professional tour guide for nearly 10 years. With a great love for both people and history, Ken is passionate and enthusiastic, and enjoys nothing better than introducing visitors from abroad to his beloved South Africa. A former broadcast journalist and sports anchor, Ken has many experiences to draw on and tries to put his guests at ease right from the outset with his witty banter and a caring attitude. Apart from guiding, Ken's other interests include sport, reading, hiking and painting.
Our guide for Hungary, Laszlo, has been working in the travel industry for over thirty years. In 1974, he obtained a PHD from the University of Economics in Budapest, where he has lived all of his life. His passion for travelling has taken him all over the world and he speaks English, German and Russian. When not working, Laszlo enjoys music, literature and cooking. Laszlo has won Travel Department’s Guide Excellence Award for his dedication, passion and kindness. At the end of every holiday to Budapest we are inundated with praise for Laszlo.
Anna has a great love for tourism and has studied the subject at many different levels. After graduating from University with a higher level Diploma in Tourism, she gained a position at the department of Natural Sciences at Siena University. From there she graduated with various post-graduate qualifications and now specialises in “Eco Tourism “and “Experimental Archaeology”. She has been working as a tour guide in Tuscany since 1992, and prides herself on her great knowledge of the area, her ability to educate tourists about environmental issues, languages and historical-artistic subjects.
Born and raised in Vienna, Daniela has worked in tourism and destination management since graduating from school where she studied history and political science. In addition to her work as a tour guide in Vienna Daniela also enjoys reading, bicycle riding, skiing, spending time with friends and travelling.
Libby has been working as a tour guide in the Czech Republic for over 25 years. She is very experienced, knowledgeable and has a great sense of humour. In her spare time, Libby loves sports and travelling.
Patricia grew up in France and Sydney, Australia. She has been a licensed guide for over ten years. She got her start in the tourism industry as a guide for river and canal cruises in France. She loves being a tour guide as it gives her a lot of freedom and opportunity to meet different people from all horizons.
Patricia lives on a barge in Paris with her seven year old son and in her spare time enjoys history, architecture, good food and wine!
Petur became involved in tourism while studying in Prague in the late 90’s by being just about the only person available who spoke both Icelandic and Czech. After returning to Iceland he studied at the local guide school and became a professional full time guide in 2000. He loves sharing Iceland and its wonder with travelers. Petur’s interests include photography, birds, geology and geography. He enjoys spending his free time with his family.
Murat studied international relations at the Istanbul University of Economics from 1986 to 1991, before completing a professional tour guiding course at the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and Culture. He has been working as a professional tour guide in Turkey since 1996, a position he thoroughly enjoys as it allows him to meet people from all over the world. Murat speaks Turkish and English and enjoys chess, horse riding and pinball.
Giuditta has worked in the travel industry for nearly 2 years now where she introduces Travel Department customers to the Sorrento region of Italy. She has got a Degree in Management Tourism. Her favourite part of the job is the direct contact that she has with the customers- getting to meet and know new people makes it all worthwhile. She loves introducing Travel Department customers to lesser known attractions in Sorrento in particular the Sorrento Musical Show. In her spare time, Giudtta loves to travel and cites New Zealand as being her favourite holiday destination.
Sarah qualified as a London Blue Badge guide in 2001. Since then, she has been working as a tour guide with Travel Department. She specialises in walking tours which go behind the well known facades and tourist spots to quiet squares and streets to explore hidden and secret London. Sarah loves sharing her passion for London and beyond with visitors. In her spare time she enjoys the theatre, playing tennis and walking in the country.
Andy Iglesias was born in Cuba but raised in the U.S.A. He arrived in Spain in 1982 to work with in the hotel industry in Andalucía. He moved to Spain permanently in 1988 and has being working as a tour guide and travel assistant ever since. If you are going on a Travel Department holiday to Andalucía, Madrid, Castilla La Mancha or Castilla Leon then Andy is looking forward to showing you around the local area.
Donald has been working in the travel industry for 14 years and has worked for Travel Department for the last 4 years. Donald loves to meet & get to know Travel Department customers who he finds to be very polite and friendly.
Donald speaks fluent English and Mandarin and is proud to say he even has some Irish words in his vocabulary which have been passed down to him from our customers over the years. Donald's party piece would be to sing a song- 'Molly Malone', 'Ireland's Call' and 'When Irish eyes are smiling' are amongst his favourites.
Donald's favourite part of our China itineraries are The Great Wall of China and The Terracotta Warriors. Donald loves to traveL- Nepal, Angkor Wat in Cambodia and a motorcycling holiday in Vietnam are among his favourite holidays.
Ana has worked in the travel industry since 1993 having studied tourism. She has been working as a tour guide for Travel Department since 2011. Ana loves being a tour guide for many reasons but mainly because she gets to meet interesting people and learn about new cultures.
In terms of her own travels, Ana loves to travel and loves both cultural and relaxing holidays. Austria would be a destination she enjoyed very much. Particularly the Art & architecture on display. The United Arab Emirates would also be a favourite destination for Ana where she can relax relax and soak up the sun.
Andrea became a tour guide 10 years ago in order to satisfy his passion for knowledge, exploration and discovery. He enjoys relaying his knowledge to visitors who travel to Tuscany to discover something different about the region. He is an expert in ornithology and botany, but also has a keen interest in archaeology and art history. In recent years Andrea has devoted himself to teaching communication through pedagogical techniques. He regularly lectures on training courses for guides and naturalistic education projects at schools.
From the time Annalisa finished high school, she has worked in the travel industry. She has being a tour guide for 27 years the last 6 of which have been with Travel Department.
Annalisa's favourite things about being a guide are the fact that you get to travel as well as getting to meet lovely people. Apart from guiding groups around her native Italy, Annalisa has also worked as a tour guide in Germany, Austria and Egypt.
